what is African Fat Tailed Gecko?
African Fat Tail geckos (Hemitheconyx caudicinctus) are mid sized, nocturnal, terrestrial geckos native to western Africa. Their habitat is generally considered to be arid savannah, though they likely spend much of their time in more humid microclimates. Wild type Fat Tail geckos are banded in varying shades of brown. Some have a white stripe that runs from nose to tail. Recent selective breeding has resulted in a wider variety of Fat Tail gecko patterns and colors. Fat Tail geckos are called “Eublepharid”, meaning that they have eyelids and can close their eyes. Fat Tail geckos are among the more reclusive and timid geckos and are generally considered to be a beginner pet.
What can African fat tailed geckos eat?
Feeding: Fat-tail Geckos mainly eat live crickets, mealworms, waxworms, roach nymphs, and silk-worms. Be careful not to feed them anything larger than about 3/4 the size of their heads to prevent choking. Appropriate sized mealworms can be put in a small bowl with added calcium at all times.
How often should I feed my African fat tailed gecko?
Geckos that are under four months should be fed about five crickets every day and juveniles and adults should be fed about nine crickets or mealworms three times a week.
Are African fat tailed geckos nocturnal?
They are terrestrial and nocturnal, and have moveable eyelids, vertical pupils, and no adhesive lamellae (sticky feet). The African fat-tailed gecko is found in West Africa, from Senegal to Cameroon. Their habitat is dry and arid, although they will spend most of their time in a dark, humid hiding place.
Can you house African fat tailed geckos together?
An aquarium can a pair of geckos. Multiple female geckos can be housed together or can be housed with a single male. It is very important to never house two male fat-tailed geckos together as males will defend their territory through aggressive fighting that can cause serious injury.

How do you take care of an African fat tailed gecko?
Fat Tail geckos require at least one dry hide per gecko placed on the hot side of the enclosure (see below) as well as a humid hide, which is usually a plastic container with moist paper towel, eco earth or sphagnum moss. In addition, a basic Fat Tail gecko setup has a water bowl.
